Resolution Description | Account Setup
- Password: your supervisor will provide you with your email address and temporary password (first 8 digits of your Employee ID number). Set your password at password.butler.edu right away. Please note: you will not be able to access any Butler systems until you change your password and set up 2fa (item 2 below). Never share your password with anyone.
- Two-Factor Authentication: two-factor authentication provides a second layer of security to numerous applications. Enroll in Butler's two-factor authentication by following the instructions here.
Email and Phone
- Email: Butler email is provided by Microsoft. Access your Butler email at office.com, and if you'd like, setup your Butler email on a mobile device.

- Phone/Voicemail: review information on the RingCentral phone system here. Note: not all Butler faculty and staff are issued a RingCentral extension. If you need a Butler phone number, you can request one by clicking Create New Case on this page.
Wireless Network (Wi-Fi) and Printing
- Wi-Fi: connect your smartphone and other devices to the Butler wireless network.
- Printing: learn more about our PrintSmart program, including how to print confidential documents using Follow Me printing. Your department will be charged for what you print.
File Storage and Collaboration
- Microsoft OneDrive and Teams (part of Microsoft 365): explore Butler's cloud storage option OneDrive. Click here to explore Butler's chat, file storage and collaboration tool.
- Google Apps: find information about Google Apps here.
- File Storage and Collaboration: talk to your supervisor about where to store files/where files are stored. Wherever you store your files, please ensure you are using cloud storage, rather than local storage. For more info, click on File Storage and Sharing Article Index.
Software/Applications/Tools
- My.Butler: log in to my.butler.edu and take a look around. This is where you'll view your paycheck, clock in, request time off, and update your personal contact information.
- Canvas: visit canvas.butler.edu and take a look around. Canvas is Butler's learning management system.

- Global Protect (VPN): if you need to connect to specific apps on the Butler network while working remotely, click here.
Additional Information/Tips
- Avoid Personal Use: when you leave Butler, you will lose access to your Butler account. Butler IT recommends not using your Butler account for personal emails or files.

How to Get Help with Technology
- The IT Help Desk is the singular repair option for Butler owned computers and other technology. Please do not take Butler owned tech to a third party repair shop.
- The Information Technology Help Desk provides technology assistance and related services to faculty and staff. Visit How to Contact the IT Help Desk for more information.
- Ask.butler.edu (this site) houses our knowledge base for answers to common technology questions. You can also request assistance via an online case or chat with a technician.
Practice Safe Computing
- Don't share your password with anyone. Ever. Doing so is a violation of Butler's Computer Use Policy.

- Butler IT sends out cybersecurity awareness training modules every semester. Take advantage of this free training opportunity to protect Butler and yourself personally.
- Always have a backup plan. Keep all your files on OneDrive, Teams, Google Drive, or other storage options, rather than your computer desktop.
- Never comply with requests for personal information, unless you initiate contact or know the source. Scammers may attempt to "phish" for your personal information, which they could then use to steal your identity.
- All Butler-owned computers have firewall and antivirus software installed and updated by IT. If you think you have a virus, contact the IT Help Desk.
- IT makes monthly operating system updates available on Butler-owned computers.
