Resolution Description | How to enroll a USB security key for 2FA:
- If you require a USB security key, please contact the IT Help Desk (How to Contact the IT Help Desk)
- If you previously enrolled in Butler two-factor authentication, reset your 2fa by going to 2fa.butler.edu.
- On a computer: go to my.butler.edu. On the login screen with the bulldog, enter your full Butler email address and password, then click Log In. (If you have signed previously, you will need to clear your browser history or use a new private (incognito) window).
- Choose the "Security Key" option. Please note: you can only choose one option.
- On the "Adding your security key" screen, read the items listed
- Insert the security key into an available USB port
- Click "Use Security Key"
- Follow any browser prompts presented (varies based on the browser)
- On your computer screen, you will see a 24-digit alphanumeric recovery code. Treat this recovery code as you would a password. It is important that you record this recovery code and keep it in a safe place. Suggested: take a photo of the code, and then transfer the code to a safe place that you can access without your mobile device (examples: cloud storage folder, password management app, personal non-Butler email account). In the event that you lose your device or get a new device, or in the event you don't have your device with you, this recovery code will allow you to access your account.
- Once you have captured and recorded the recovery code, check the box that says "I have safely recorded this code;" then, click Continue.
- You are now enrolled.
