What is SPSS?

IBM® SPSS® Statistics is a powerful statistical software platform. 

 

SPSS for Students

There are three options for students who need SPSS, two of which are free:

  1. Access SPSS on computer Lab computers (free).
  2. Professor requests Home Use access for a specific Butler course by submitting a case to Information Technology (click Create New Case on this page). Professor will then provide additional information to students (free) (How to Install IBM SPSS and Activation with a provided Activation code) - expires Dec/May after the course concludes.
  3. Rent SPSS (discounted) through On the Hub (What kind of software discounts can I get through Butler? )

 

SPSS for Faculty/Staff

Butler Owned Computer or Personally Owned Computers

There are three types of SPSS licenses for faculty/staff:
  1. Site License - can be used on campus or off campus with GlobalProtect VPN (GlobalProtect VPN Knowledge Article Index) - internet access required. 
 
  1. Commuter License - can be checked out for short periods of time in order to use SPSS off campus (SPSS How to Check In or Out a Commuter License (faculty/staff)) - if you dont have internet access you can use this option but you must have checked it out in advance (must check out while you are connected to the internet). There is a 30 days limit for the checkout. This option is good to use if you are traveling or need to work offline periodically.
 
  1. Individual License - can be issued by Information Technology if a faculty/staff member needs to use SPSS off campus with no internet connection on a regular basis (i.e., don't have internet access for more than 30 days at a time). These licenses expire every December (My SPSS license is expiring in a month).
