TitleSPSS How to Check In or Out a Commuter License (faculty/staff)
Resolution Description

General Information About SPSS Commuter Licenses:

Normally, you must connect to the Butler network to run the site license for SPSS. SPSS users can also check out a commuter license that allows them to use the network license when they are not connected to the Butler network. For example, you might want to run IBM SPSS Statistics on a train when you don't have a network connection.

Before you disconnect from the internet, check out a commuter license for a limited amount of time. If you will need the commuter license for additional time, you will need to reconnect to the internet and check the license back out before time expires; otherwise, IBM SPSS Statistics will stop working.

Important:

Once the Commuter License is no longer needed, check the license back in so others may use it.

To Check OUT a License:

  1. Open the IBM SPSS Statistics Application.
  2. In either of the two windows that opened select File > Manage License
  3. A new window will appear. Select Launch Commuter Utility Tool.
  4. Once the Commuter Utility Tool launches select the desired version of the Commuter license. Software versions are in ascending order.
  5. Select the duration for using the license.
  6. Select Check Out.
  7. Exit the Commuter Utility
  8. Restart SPSS. SPSS requires a restart for the change to take effect.

To Check IN a License (when you are done using it):

  1.  Repeat the same steps listed for checking out a Commuter License and select the license with a red check mark. Click Check In instead of selecting Check Out.
  2. Click Check In and exit the page.
