Configuring Settings

We would like to draw your attention to a few critical settings:

  • Emergency Location - RingCentral uses a system called Emergency Response Location (ERL) to provide your physical location to emergency services personnel if a 911 call is placed. RingCentral will automatically ask you for your location when you sign in, and again any time the app detects that you are in a new location.

When setting your ERL, you will be presented with a list of Butler buildings (with addresses). You may use this information to create a personal ERL which includes your building’s address and your specific room number. If working remotely (from home, for example) you will also need to create a personal ERL for your home address. Mac users must enable Location Sharing Services when setting an ERL.

Please read this article carefully for instructions on creating a personal ERL.

  • Work Hours - Please set up your work hours in the RingCentral app. This setting will dictate how calls are managed when you are at work versus when you are not (for example, you may set calls to go directly to voicemail after hours or be forwarded to another number).

  • Voicemail - Please set your voicemail greeting and configure relevant voicemail settings. Please note that you may have separate voicemail greetings for work hours and after hours if you choose.

Faxing and Texting

Fax messages sent to departmental fax numbers will be delivered to a shared email inbox (as designated by the department) and distributed accordingly.

Text messaging (SMS) is available in RingCentral upon request. Please read the Text Message Guidelines article linked below, and then submit a case for Information Technology for enablement of the text messaging feature.RingCentral SMS Text Message Guidelines
