Resolution Description | Butler University’s network is setup in a way to provide the best experience for our community. In order to maintain the highest standards, we have built the network to use redundant public connections to the internet.The RingCentral Emergency Response Location (ERL) uses this public connection, as well as wireless access point information to triangulate your location based on the information provided to the RingCentral application from both of these sources. Once you have selected and confirmed your ERL location, it uses the connection made from the network to “remember” your selected ERL location. Essentially what this means, is that it will take a user multiple “connections” (e.g. when you move a wireless computer to another room, it connects to a new access point – when you leave campus and come back, it will connect to a new external IP address of the 5 Butler utilizes) until RingCentral can associate each connection with the emergency response location you save. It will continue to ask for a location update as you cycle thru the public IP addresses OR if you change physical location in your building or around campus. Users should expect that they may have to update the settings a few times to account for all options for this algorithm, for which we average around 1 week until all connections have been saved to the RingCentral system. Furthermore, anytime the prompt is closed without saving a location can prolong how much time it takes to go through this process. RingCentral will continue to prompt after this first week with implementation anytime a user moves to a different room (even in the same building) or when they work remotely and come back.
