What kind of personal computer should I get for Butler?

If you are thinking about getting a new computer, or if you are unsure what computer to bring with you to Butler, here are some things to consider:
 

• Contact your academic advisor or College (example: Lacy School of Business) to see if there are any specific computer requirements for your area of study. You can also check online to see if your College has any recommendations posted to their website. For example, the Pharmacy program technology requirements.
• Butler IT does NOT recommend Chromebooks as a primary device for college. 
• Both Mac and Windows computers are supported by the IT Help Desk. There are also multiple Mac and PC computer labs on campus that students can use, so if the student has one type of computer and needs to use one with a different operating system, they can access one of the lab computers. • Students can borrow Mac and Windows computers from the Library and the Science Library for up to two weeks at a time. For more information, go to What technology can I borrow at Butler?

IT recommends all students have headphones that work with their computer. If the computer does not have a built-in webcam/microphone, IT recommends having an external webcam and/or microphone.

Please note that these recommendations may vary depending on device make, model, and/or your computing needs. 

Students are strongly encouraged to make use of the cloud storage space provided via Butler OneDrive or Google Drive for storing and backing up files.
 
It is recommended to purchase an extended warranty on the computer to ensure repairs and coverage while working towards your degree.
