TitleTroubleshooting Student Audio on Zoom
Resolution Description

Options to help students get their computer audio set up for Zoom

  • For students in the classroom

    1. If a student is in the classroom but wants Zoom open on their laptop to follow along, they need to mute their speakers and their microphone, or they can select join by phone to avoid an echo in the meeting.

    2. Ask the student to select the Phone Call tab on this screen when joining the meeting.

    3. This will make it so their computer microphone and speakers are not active for Zoom.

  • For remote students

    1. These students should use a headset or ear buds either connected to their computer or their phone

      • They should always test their computer devices by clicking the caret (up arrow) next to the Mute button and then select Test Speakers & Microphone...

      • If they call in, they should be set but need to sure to mute their microphone on entry.   Many participants that call in forget to do this and it can be very distracting. You can avoid this by selecting Mute Participants Upon Entry when setting up your scheduled meeting.
