Adding LinkedIn Learning as a Graded Canvas Assignment

Follow these instructions to connect your students to a specific LinkedIn Learning training and give them a grade for completing it. You will need to get the URL for the specific course or for a single video and use that URL when setting up the assignment or module item.

1. Log in to Canvas and go to the course you want to add the assignment to.
2. Click on Assignments from the left side course navigation menu.
3. In the top right corner, click the blue + Assignment button.

4. Name the assignment and provide a description.
5. For Points, enter 100. (This is needed because LinkedIn Learning passes the score back based on the percent of a course that a student has completed).
6. For the Display Grade as field, make sure it is Points.

7. For the Submission Type, select External Tool.
8. Click the Find button in the lower right corner of the pop-up window.
9. Click LinkedIn Learning in the list of tools (the list is alphabetical).

10. A new screen will load that allows you to search for content in LinkedIn Learning.  Once you find the content you want to assign to students, click the Add button. You will notice a green "Successfully added" message once content has been added.

11. Click Confirm in the lower right of the window.

12. When the selection window closes, click the Select button.
13. Back on the assignments settings page, check the box to Load This Tool In A New Tab.

14. Make any other changes to the assignments settings page you wish, such as adding a due date.
15. Click Save or Save and Publish.

 

Instructions for Students

As students progress through the LinkedIn Learning course, the percentage they complete will appear in the Canvas gradebook.  Once they have completed the entire course, they should have a score of 100. Please note that they MUST watch the LinkedIn Learning videos through your assignment for their scores to pass to Canvas. They cannot go directly to LinkedIn Learning to do the assignment.
