How do I access free Microsoft 365 or Office?

Who can access Microsoft 365 (office.com) and Microsoft Office (desktop apps)? For how long?

Microsoft 365 (cloud-based service via office.com) is available to all current Butler students, faculty, staff and affiliates until you leave Butler.

• Butler students and select faculty and staff are issued an A3 Microsoft license which provides access to Microsoft 365 via the web/mobile apps as well as the desktop applications (installed on a computer).
• Butler affiliates and select faculty and staff are issued an A1 Microsoft license which provides access to Microsoft 365 only via the web/mobile apps.

To install Office 365 desktop apps on your computer, follow these steps (current students and select faculty/staff only):

1. Go to office.com  and log in with your full Butler email address and password
2. Be sure you are on the "Home" tab in the left pane
3. Click Install Office, then Office 365 apps in the top right of the webpage
4. Software that you are licensed to install will show up, click install on the desired application
5. When the download is finished, run the installer and follow the prompts
6. Once the install is finished, launch any one of the Microsoft Office programs, and activate your license by signing in using your Butler email address and password

To install Microsoft 365 apps on your mobile device, follow these steps (current students, faculty, staff, and affiliates):

1. Download and install the individual Office Mobile apps through your device's store (Apple App Store or Google Play Store)
2. Once installed, open one of the apps and select Sign In
3. Enter your Butler email address
4. Choose to sign in with an Organizational account
5. Enter your Butler email address and Butler password and click Sign In
