How to choose the correct microphone for Zoom
The best way to verify you have the correct microphone and speaker for Zoom is to use the audio test in the application:
-
Click the caret (up arrow) next to the Join Audio icon
.
-
Click Test Speaker & Microphone...
-
Turn on the room system showing the PC/Mac. If in Lilly Hall, make sure you have chosen the Mac for your speaker output as well. Make sure the volume on the touch panel/button panel is not muted and shows at least halfway on the gauge.
-
Speaker 1: should be set to Crestron. If it isn't, select Crestron from the drop-down menu. You should hear the chimes play. Confirm you hear the audio by clicking Yes.
-
The test will now ask you to speak and pause, then will ask if you heard system replay what you just said. If you speak and do not see blue in the gauge next to Input Level:, use the drop down menu for Microphone 1: to select a different microphone.
-
Use the microphone labeled Microphone (USB device) in a PC classroom.
-
When you select the microphone, speak and then see blue in the gauge next to Input Level:, you have found the correct microphone. Make sure that they system plays your audio back to you through the test and then click Yes.
-
If you can hear the chimes and Zoom playing back your audio to you, then the audio is set up correctly. If someone on the other end can't hear you or you can't hear them, it is most likely on their end.
