TitleWhy are my students seeing "Cannot Upload Submission" for a Turnitin assignment in Canvas?
Resolution Description

Just as with any other Canvas assignment, you can specify start and due dates for Turnitin assignments. Those dates, however, are automatically set in relation to when the assignment was initially created; the Start Date is one day before the create date and the Due Date is one week after the create date. If a student tries to submit outside of the submission window, they will see a "Cannot Upload Submission" message.

Change Assignment Dates

  1. Navigate to the Turnitin assignment.
  2. Select Settings on the far right.
  3. You’ll be taken to a page where you can specify the Start DateDue Date and Feedback Release Date. Note that Turnitin’s date-time feature functions on a 24-hour clock.
    • The Start Date specifies when the assignment open for student submissions. You must set the Start Date to at least 24 hours before you intend to start receiving submissions.
    • The Due Date specifies when the assignment will stop taking student submissions (unless you allowed for late submissions, in which case this will determine when student submissions are marked late).
    • The Feedback Release Date specifies when grades on the assignment will be made visible to students.
  4. When your dates are set, select Submit to save your changes.

Allow Late Submissions

To collect submissions after the Due Date, allow late submissions.
  1. Navigate to the Turnitin assignment.
  2. Select Settings on the far right.
  3. Select Optional Settings.
  4. Check off Allow late submissions.
  5. Select Submit.
