The Butler IT warranty provides coverage for standard computing devices and peripherals/accessories as follows:
Computing Devices: Laptops and desktops come with a three-year warranty, while tablets (iPads) come with a two-year warranty.
Peripherals and Accessories: All peripherals and accessories purchasable through the Computing Standards site (e.g., external monitors, keyboards, mice, docking stations) are covered under a two-year warranty.
The cost of the warranty is included in the listed purchase price for all items in the Standard Computing Devices site.
What the Warranty Covers
The Butler IT warranty covers manufacturer defects and premature hardware failure for the periods stated above. If a Butler-owned computing device, peripheral, or accessory experiences a hardware issue during the warranty period, please submit a case to IT for assessment and repair. There will be no charge to the university department for covered repairs.
Out-of-Warranty Repairs and Replacements
If non-accidental hardware failure occurs after the warranty period (i.e., after 2 years for an iPad or peripheral/accessory, or after 3 years for a laptop/desktop), IT may determine whether to repair or replace the item. If the cost of repair exceeds the remaining value of the device, IT may recommend replacement, and the responsible university department will cover the replacement cost.
Accidental Damage Policy
For accidental damage (such as drops, screen cracks, liquid damage, or environmental exposure), IT will assess whether repair is feasible. If repair is not an option, IT may recommend a replacement. In these cases, all repair or replacement costs will be incurred by the responsible university department, regardless of warranty status.
For any warranty or repair inquiries, please submit a case to the. Butler IT Help Desk using Ask.Butler.edu for evaluation.
