What is Akindi?
Akindi is a Scantron alternative that is capable of creating and printing answer sheets so that traditional bubble sheets do not have to be purchased, then using a typical copier/scanner to scan in the sheets and score them. The software is also capable of delivering answer sheets electronically via a web interface. At Butler, this is initially a replacement for ParScore, a Scantron solution for scoring paper-based, scanned answer sheets.
With Akindi, instructors can...
- Reduce turnaround time for grades. Akindi grades test sheets in minutes, which helps get test results and return the grades to students faster.
- Send test results in Canvas with 2-clicks. Because Akindi is integrated into Canvas, instructors can send the results to their Canvas gradebook in seconds.
- Save time. Akindi is easy to use and features friendly in-app support to help save time on multiple choice grading.
Not only is Akindi integrated with Canvas so that students can interact with it there, it is able to provide multiple versions of the same exam for exam security, exam analytics for instruction and exam improvement support, etc.
Users and Access
Akindi is being used in the BSHS program in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. It is being administered by Tina Vawter with additional support from Academic Programs.
Akindi's pricing model is based on exams administered. Additional academic departments wishing to use Akindi may contact Tina Vawter in COPHS to discuss the need and she will involve the appropriate personnel in IT and Academic Programs to assess the cost and, if agreeable, onboarding of the department.
Authentication
Akindi is integrated with Canvas via a plugin, and users are through that plugin.

She is assisted in this effort by Academic Programs. Faculty and staff with questions about Akindi should contact Tina or Academic Programs for additional information and, if warranted, escalation of an issue to the vendor.
