Resolution Description

What is a Zoom Whiteboard?

A Zoom Whiteboard showing different students’ responses to a displayed question.

Modern communication solutions, like video conferencing, have transformed the ability to collaborate in a digital space, whether at home or in the classroom. It can be hard, however, to replicate the organic creativity generated by in-person meetings in online sessions.

With Zoom Whiteboard, students can conceptualize and collaborate on a highly transformable digital canvas. Zoom Whiteboard is built to foster innovation, making it simple for students to interact in new ways for seamless collaboration.

How do I use Zoom Whiteboards?

Zoom Whiteboard for Live Instruction

Recommended Tools:

  • Timer
    • Found on the top left of a whiteboard, denoted by a stopwatch icon. Allows users to set a countdown timer for a specified amount of time. Note: Timers set outside meetings are not visible during meetings and timers set during meetings only affect users in the same meeting.
  • Laser
    • Found on the top left of a whiteboard, denoted by a scribble icon. Enables easy highlighting and annotation without editing the document.
  • Presentation Mode
    • Place frames (slides) anywhere on the board. Write on top of them or place them over existing content. Enter presentation mode by clicking on the icon on the top left panel.
  • Comments
    • Add a comment by pressing C and clicking where you want to place it. Hosts can respond to and resolve comments via the comments panel on the top right side.

Zoom Whiteboard for Asynchronous Instruction

  • Sharing Zoom Whiteboards
  • Setting up a sharable link that anyone can view ensures that your students have access. (Otherwise, they will need to be logged into their Butler Zoom account.)
  • Exporting Zoom Whiteboards
  • Under the More Actions icon (three horizontal lines), click Export. Users can export the whiteboard as a PDF, PNG, or CSV.
