TitlePreventing Unwanted Guests from Attending Zoom Meetings
Resolution Description

Unwanted guests can gain access to your meeting by obtaining your meeting link or by randomly choosing a meeting ID and ending up there by chance. There are several techniques you can use to stop this from occurring and to keep them from disturbing your meeting if they do show up.

Ways of keeping unintended guests out:

  • Be sure to only share the meeting link with those that would be welcome in the meeting.
    • Consider your audience when posting your meeting link.  Posting on web pages or social media makes it possible for Zoombombers to have direct access to your meeting.  Canvas and direct emails are good ways to control who has access to the link.
  • Create a waiting room - Make a Waiting Room for Zoom Meetings
    • Creating a waiting room gives the host the ability to only allow the participants they choose.  The host can allow individuals logged in with Butler accounts (Participants) to enter without waiting, or they can require all non-host members to wait until allowed in.
  • Password protect your meeting - Password Protecting a Zoom Meeting, Zoom's Password Article
    • Keeping a meeting password protected means that only those with the password can enter the meeting.  It is necessary that everyone joining the meeting has that password or they will have no way (aside from contacting the host directly) to enter.
  • Removing a participant from your meeting - Removing Someone from a Zoom Meeting
    • Removing a participant from a meeting prevents them from rejoining with the same Zoom ID.
