Set Notifications in Microsoft Teams

Check with your supervisor to see if there are any required settings for your department.

Desktop Application:

Overall notifications applied to the Teams application is done through your profile. Individual Channels can have alternate settings. Set your profile notification preferences first, then set your individual Channel preferences.

Profile notification settings:

  1. Click the 3 dots (ellipses) next to your profile picture in the top-right corner
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Notifications
  4. Set each notification as you want
  5. When finished, click the X to close Settings
Channel specific notification settings:
  1. Hover your mouse over the channel you wish to set
  2. Click the ellipses to show the context menu
  3. Click Channel notifications
  4. Set the notification as you want

You have to do this for each channel individually.

Mobile Application:

  1. Tap your profile picture
  2. Tap Notifications
  3. Tap an entry for what you want to set
  4. Toggle whichever option(s) you want (this should display the notification settings your phone has stored)
  5. Tap the back button on your phone to return to Teams
  6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 for each entry you want to customize
  7. You can set Quite hours and Quiet Days if you prefer
  8. You can also set the option to notify your mobile Only when inactive on desktop or Always, even if active on desktop. We recommend the always option to ensure notifications are delivered to your mobile device regardless of activity on the desktop
  9. Proceed with other settings as you want them
