Resolution Description

Make sure both your laptop and mobile device are connected to Butler Secure or BU Secure wireless, or the Butler wired network (not BU Guest or cellular).

Using a personal VPN may produce issues when connecting to printers on campus.

1-Initial Setup: Add Printer(s) to Your Personal Windows Computer

  1. Connect to Butler Secure or BU Secure wireless network. 
  2. Download the Papercut Mobility Print Installer here.
  3. Download and run the installer.
  4. You will be prompted to select your setup language (English is the default). Click Ok.
  5. Review the License Agreement, then click the radio button for I accept the agreement and click Next.
  6. The BU_PrintRelease printer should be automatically selected for you (Note: if you wish to print to the color printers located in the Libraries, you must also select IL_Color_K and LFH_200B_K). Click Next.
  7. Enter your Butler username (without the @butler.edu) and Butler password. Click Next.
  8. Click Finish.
  9. STUDENT WORKERS AND SOME FACULTY/STAFF ONLY (if this does not apply to you, skip to next section): if you have access to charge print jobs to multiple accounts (common with student workers and some faculty/staff), you must also install the Printsmart client (skip to the next step if you do not have access to charge multiple accounts): How do I install the PrintSmart client?


2-Send a Print Job to the Queue:

  1. Print from any application, choosing  BU_PrintRelease as your printer (note: if you wish to print to the color printers in the Libraries, select IL_Color_K for Irwin Library or LFH_200B_K for Science Library).
    • If you have access to charge print jobs to different accounts, you will be prompted to select an account to charge the account to.

3- Release Your Print Job to a Printer:

If printing to a public printer:

  1. Ensure your mobile device is connected to the Butler Secure or BU Secure wireless network.
  2. Using the camera on your smartphone or tablet, scan the QR Code sticker on the printer.
  3. A PaperCut login screen will appear. You will be prompted to sign in using your Butler username (without @butler.edu) and Butler password.
  4. Tap Release for your print job.
  5. Collect your print job from the printer.

If printing to a Sharp Multifunction Printer:

Note: Personal printing not available for CH_148_S, CH_301_S, CH_ADMIN_S, CH_Box_S, FH_1470_S, FH_3129_S, JH_133_S, IL_109_K, PB_107G_S, PG_500_S, and RB_008_S

  1. Login to the Sharp device by scanning your Butler ID card on the device or entering your credentials on the pull-out keyboard. 
  2. Select your print job on the printer and tap Print
  3. Your job will print. Collect your print job from the printer

If printing to a Kyocera printer in a Departmental Area:

  1. Make sure your device (can be mobile device or computer) is connected to the Butler Secure wireless network
  2. Visit https://printsmart.butler.edu/mr/printername in a web browser (example: https://printsmart.butler.edu/mr/HB_350_S). You can find a list of available printers here
  3. Sign in with your Butler username and Butler password
  4. Tap Release
  5. Your job will print. Collect your print job from the printer

If printing to the color printers located in the libraries:

You will not be able to release the print job yourself. You must visit the circulation desk and upon receipt of payment, a library staff member will collect your job for you.
