TitleHow to Use Descriptive Links in Microsoft 365
Resolution Description

Descriptive links provide textual descriptions about the information contained in a link before it is opened. Descriptive links benefit all students, but especially students who are using screen readers. Screen readers are able to provide a list of every link used within a document, so the use of descriptive links makes it much easier for those using screen readers to navigate to the specific links they need.

When incorporating descriptive links into your online documents, avoid the use of phrases such as “Click here”, or “use this link.” Also, avoid pasting in the standalone URL into your documents. For example, if linking to the Wikipedia page about dogs, avoid copying and pasting the direct link to the page (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog). Instead, write something such as: "Wikipedia's page about dogs has information about the different breeds of dogs.
