TitleHow do I make a student a TA or a Designer in my Canvas course? (Instructors)
Resolution Description

Students as TA's

In order for a student to be added as a TA, they must first have a signed Code of Responsibility form on file with Human Resources. The steps to add a student as a TA are:

  1. Student downloads and signs the Code of Responsibility form
  2. Student sends the Code of Responsibility form to their instructor.
  3. Instructor sends the Code of Responsibility form to HR and copies OEET, indicating in which class(es) the student will be a TA.
  4. HR verifies receipt of the form and verifies it has been entered in the system.
  5. OEET adds the student as a TA in the appropriate class(es).

Students as Designers

Faculty who wish for students to be added in a Designer role do not need to ask their students to complete a Code of Responsibility form because these students will not have access to student grades in the course. Additionally, students who are Designers will not be able to assist with grading or see student submissions.

Faculty should note that students in the Designer role can see unpublished content; therefore, we do not recommend adding an enrolled student in this role if the course has pre-built quizzes or exams.

Faculty wanting to add a student in the Designer role should email OEET@butler.edu and include in the request:

  • Student's email address
  • Course name/number
  • Role desired
