How do I install the PrintSmart client?

Note: the Printsmart client is only required if you have access to charge print jobs to multiple accounts (most common scenarios are student employees or faculty and staff with multiple roles and or positions). 

How to Install PrintSmart on a Windows Computer:

1. Connect to the Butler Secure wireless network.The instructions below will NOT work if you are connected to BU Guest/Open wireless.
2. Go to the Start Menu 
3. In the Search Box, type \\printsmart.butler.edu\PCClient\Win and then press the Enter key
4. If prompted, enter your Butler username and password; ex: BUTLER\jdoe.
5. Double-click Client-Local-Install.exe. You must install the client from inside this folder, otherwise it will not work. DO NOT drag the file to your desktop!
6. Accept the End-user License Agreement
7. Leave the installation path as is
8. Choose "Local Install (For all Users)" when asked
9. When the install is complete, ensure "Launch client and verify my identity" is checked and click Finish
10. Enter your Butler username and password in the login window and ensure "Remember my identity" is checked
11. The PrintSmart client window may show up in the upper right corner of your desktop and the PrintSmart icon will be in the system tray. The PrintSmart client must be running in order for you to print.

How to Install PrintSmart on a Mac Computer:

1. Connect to the Butler Secure wireless network.The instructions below will NOT work if you are connected to BU Guest/Open wireless.
2. In the Finder, select Go then Connect to Server
3. In the server address field enter smb://printsmart.butler.edu/pcclient/mac then click Connect
4. When prompted, enter your Butler username and password; ex: BUTLER\username
5. Double-click Client-Local-Install. You must install the client from inside this folder, otherwise it will not work. DO NOT drag the file to your desktop!
6. When you see Install PCClient into the Applications Folder click Yes
7. It may take up to 5 minutes for the Login window to appear. Once it does, enter your Butler username and password and ensure "Remember my identity" is checked.
8. Click OK
9. Once the client is installed you should see the PrintSmart icon in your doc and the balance window should be in the upper right corner of you desktop
10. Ctrl + Click the PrintSmart icon and click Open at Login. On 10.6 you must first click Options, then click Open at Login.
11. Restart your computer
12. Now when you login the PrintSmart client window should be in the upper right corner of your desktop and the PrintSmart icon should be in the Dock. Remember: the PrintSmart client must be running in order for you to print.
