How do I hide Canvas modules while students are taking an online quiz? (Instructors)

To minimize cheating during online quizzes, instructors can temporarily hide modules from their students. Note that any published assignment/quiz will still be visible on the course calendar and syllabus page. Instructors can hide modules in three ways:

Option 1: Unpublish the Module

1. Select Modules from the left-hand navigation.
2. Ensure the quiz is in a module by itself or in a module that will remain visible.
3. Click the publish icon next to the module name. 

3. Repeat for all modules that need to be hidden.
4. After the quiz, republish all modules.

Option 2: Hide the "Modules" Course Navigation Link

1. Select Settings from the Course Navigation.
2. Select Navigation from the tabs at the top of the page.
3. Drag and drop the Modules link to the disabled tools area.
4. Find Quizzes in the disabled tools, and drag and drop it into the active tools area.
5. After the quiz, return to the settings area to disable Quizzes and re-enable Modules.

Option 3: Lock the Module

1. Ensure the quiz is in a module by itself or in a module that will remain visible.
2. Select the three-dot menu next to the module name and select Edit.

3. Check off the Lock Until box.
4. Enter a date and time after the quiz for your students to regain access to the modules.
5. Click Update Module.
6. Repeat for all modules that need to be hidden.
