How do I extend quiz time for a student in Canvas? (Instructors)

If a student has a stated need for accommodation, these steps can be followed to extend quiz times in Canvas.

Step 1

Classic Quizzes: After a quiz is published, instructors can add extra time for individual students.

• First, Create and Publish the Canvas Classic Quiz. Then follow the instructions on the Once I publish a quiz, how do I use the Moderate Quiz page?  guide.

New Quizzes: You do not have to publish the quiz before you can add extra time for individual students.

• First, Create the New Quiz. Then follow these instructions on How do I moderate a student's assessment attempt in New Quizzes?

Step 2

If you created the quiz with an availability window, the availability window must be as long or longer than the accommodation time for your student. Instead of changing the window for the whole class, you can set a different availability time for individual students needing extra time.

Note: Extended time for Classic Quizzes does not display in the Canvas Student App (iOS/Android), but the student will receive the correct extended time. Extended time for a New Quizzes does display in the Canvas Student App (iOS/Android).
