How do I create a Panopto recording?

TitleHow do I create a Panopto recording?
Resolution Description

To create a Panopto recording, you must have the Panopto Recorder installed and have Creator access in at least one folder. If you do not have the Panopto Recorder, follow these installation steps.


Windows PC Recordings:

  1. In the Panopto Recorder, click the ellipsis (...) and then select Advanced login
  2. Enter your Butler email address and password. Then click Log In.
  3. Set the Folder to the course where you want to upload the video. If your folder is set to the wrong course, click the dropdown arrow on the right and select the correct course.
  4. Click into the Name field and delete the timestamp. Then, type in the name or topic of your lecture.
  5. Click the dropdown beside Video to turn your webcam on or off.
  6. Click the dropdown beside Audio to select your microphone. Note: if you are using headphones, you will need to select the headphones from this list. 
  7. Adjust the microphone by dragging (moving) the volume slider.
  8. To record a PowerPoint presentation, check the Capture PowerPoint box. 
  9. In the middle of the Panopto Recorder, click the Open a Presentation button. 
  10. Navigate to our PowerPoint presentation and click Open.
  11. To begin recording, click Yes on the pop-up prompt. Note: this will launch your PowerPoint and put it in Presentation Mode automatically.
  12. When you are finished with your PowerPoint presentation, press the Esc key on your keyboard. 
  13. Click on the Panopto Recorder icon in your toolbar (bottom of your computer screen).
  14. When the Panopto Recorder restores, click the Stop button.
  15. In the Recording Complete window, click Done
  16. Wait until the Upload Progress bar goes away. The recording will move into the Uploaded Recordings list. 
  17. Once the recording appears in the Uploaded Recordings section, close the Panopto Recorder by clicking the X in the upper-right. 


Mac Recordings, from a Canvas Course:

  1. From your course in Canvas, click Panopto Recordings from the Course Navigation.
  2. Click the Create button.
  3. Select Record a new session.
  4. On the Record a new session window, select Open Panopto.
  5. If you see a pop-up in your browser window, click Open Panopto
  6. In the Panopto Recorder, enter your Butler email and password. Then, press Enter
  7. Click Create New Recording.
  8. Set the Folder to the course where you want to upload the video. If your folder is set to the wrong course, click the dropdown arrow on the right and select the correct course.
  9. Click into the Name field and delete the timestamp. Then, type in the name or topic of your lecture.
  10. Click the dropdown beside Video to turn your webcam on or off.
  11. Click the dropdown beside Audio to select your microphone. Note: if you are using headphones, you will need to select the headphones from this list. 
  12. To record a PowerPoint presentation, check the Capture PowerPoint box. 
  13. To begin recording, click the red Record button. 
  14. Navigate to your PowerPoint presentation and put it in presentation mode. Panopto will continue to record behind the scenes while you go through your presentation.
  15. When you are finished with your PowerPoint presentation, press the Esc key on your keyboard. 
  16. Click on the Panopto Recorder icon in your dock (bottom of your computer screen).
  17. When the Panopto Recorder restores, click the Stop button.
  18. In the Recording Complete window, click Upload.
  19. In the Recording Details box, wait until the Upload Progress bar goes away and you see the worlds "Uploaded - Processing or "Completed."
  20. Close the Panopto Recorder by clicking the red circle in the upper-left.
