Title403 Forbidden: Thomas Permissions Error to Student Website
Resolution Description

If you are receiving this error after publishing a personal website to your www account on Thomas, first check to see if the domain name that was entered into the address bar uses the correct file names with forward slashes in between. (Spelling and Capitalization must be exact!)

Be sure that your home page file is labeled index.html with a lowercase "i". Thomas' default index search looks for a lowercase "i" and will return forbidden if the students' index file begins with an uppercase "I".

  • example: blue.butler.edu/~username/index.html
  • (NOTE: If you are not typing in blue.butler.edu/~username correctly, you will receive a 404 Not Found error.)

If you have posted multiple websites to your Thomas folder, you will need to enter in the root folder (main folder) in after your username (again, separated by a forward slash).

  • example: blue.butler.edu/~username/root_folder
